Elder Placement Options

Assisted Living

Assisted Living Facilities are for people needing assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) but wishing to live as independently as possible, for as long as possible. Assisted living facilities offer help with ADLs such as eating, bathing, dressing, laundry, housekeeping, and assistance with medications.

Assisted living facilities are usually large communities but can also be a smaller community. (A smaller community may be ideal for your love one that may need a little more assistance throughout the day). Meals are served in a dining room setting. Social activities and outings are usually planned on a monthly basis. These activities are not mandatory but are highly recommended. Laundry, housekeeping, medication management and transportation to doctor appointments are provided as well.

Upon admission, a personalized assessment is done in order for the facility to offer the correct care the resident will require. The assessment is updated regularly to assure that the resident receives the appropriate care as his or her condition changes.

Retirement Communities

an elderly coupleRetirement/Independent Communities are for the active and totally independent, that desire apartment living in a protected environment. They choose to lessen responsibilities of the daily routine of maintaining a residence. They want socialization and no longer want to live alone.

Seniors who live in these communities may have health concerns & desire a sense of security for medical emergencies, through 24-hour on-call services. He or she enjoys activities, recreation and outings, would like to have housekeeping, laundry and meals prepared.

At times, the senior may need transportation for medical or personal reasons. The facility anticipates providing assistance with some personal care services, in the near future, which may be offered.

Alzheimer’s Communities

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Facilities can take place in a large or a small community. These homes are especially designed to assist your love ones who have Alzheimer’s or other forms of Dementia. Special courses and/or seminars are provided for the staff to expand their knowledge in the care of Alzheimer/Dementia patients. These courses will consist of how to care for your loved ones with behavioral problems, such as depression, confusion and even violent behaviors.

As a person ages, a certain amount of memory loss and confusion is quite normal. These facilities are capable to handle this aspect of a senior’s aging process. As the senior becomes more confused and possibly may begin to wander, they may require a more secured facility with alarms on all windows and doors.

These facilities with these additional licenses will provide excellent care for Alzheimer’s patients. Private rooms are available as well as Semi-private rooms, which are sometimes preferred by seniors to avert loneliness and isolation.

Adult Family Care Homes

Adult Family Care Homes are usually private homes and are licensed for no more than five residents.

They provide the same services as an ALF; only they are able to provide more one on one care. In this community, the senior is in a home-like atmosphere with either a private room or a shared room (no more than two in a shared room). Meals, laundry, housekeeping, medication management and transportation to doctor appointments are provided. There is always a caregiver on the premises at all times.

These homes provide various levels of care. Many homes can care for non-ambulatory residents and can assist with dressing, bathing, eating and continence issues. Some are able to accommodate seniors with Dementia/Alzheimer issues. Other health issues can be cared for as well. As with Assisted Living Facilities, assessments are updated regularly to assure that the resident receives the appropriate care as his or her condition changes.
